Assistant Bakery Manager

Position Summary

The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in driving sales, execution, and operational excellence within the bakery department. This role ensures high-quality product presentation, maintains food safety standards, and delivers exceptional customer service while leading and supporting bakery team members.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations & Execution

  • Assist in overseeing daily bakery operations, including production, merchandising, and inventory control
  • Ensure all bakery products meet company quality, freshness, and presentation standards
  • Execute production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink
  • Maintain proper rotation (FIFO) and dating of all products
  • Support pricing accuracy and promotional execution

Leadership & Team Support

  • Supervise, train, and coach bakery clerks and decorators
  • Provide direction and support during shifts to maintain productivity and service levels
  • Assist with scheduling and labor management to meet business needs
  • Promote a positive, team-focused work environment

Customer Service

  • Deliver excellent customer service by engaging with customers and addressing inquiries
  • Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming department

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and audit standards
  • Monitor cleanliness of equipment, cases, and production areas

Inventory & Financial Performance

  • Assist in inventory management, ordering, and receiving processes
  • Help control shrink and waste through proper ordering and production planning
  • Support achieving sales, margin, and labor targets

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in bakery operations or food retail preferred
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of bakery production, food safety, and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • Repetitive tasks such as decorating, slicing, and stocking
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments
