Assistant Bakery Manager
Position Summary
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in driving sales, execution, and operational excellence within the bakery department. This role ensures high-quality product presentation, maintains food safety standards, and delivers exceptional customer service while leading and supporting bakery team members.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations & Execution
- Assist in overseeing daily bakery operations, including production, merchandising, and inventory control
- Ensure all bakery products meet company quality, freshness, and presentation standards
- Execute production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink
- Maintain proper rotation (FIFO) and dating of all products
- Support pricing accuracy and promotional execution
Leadership & Team Support
- Supervise, train, and coach bakery clerks and decorators
- Provide direction and support during shifts to maintain productivity and service levels
- Assist with scheduling and labor management to meet business needs
- Promote a positive, team-focused work environment
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service by engaging with customers and addressing inquiries
- Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming department
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and audit standards
- Monitor cleanliness of equipment, cases, and production areas
Inventory & Financial Performance
- Assist in inventory management, ordering, and receiving processes
- Help control shrink and waste through proper ordering and production planning
- Support achieving sales, margin, and labor targets
Qualifications
- Previous experience in bakery operations or food retail preferred
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Knowledge of bakery production, food safety, and sanitation standards
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Repetitive tasks such as decorating, slicing, and stocking
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments
