Job Summary
Lead mechanical engineering design projects from concept to completion, collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and efficient building services solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and chair progress, design team, and coordination meetings to drive project milestones and alignment
- Represent AECOM at client, design team, and progress meetings during design and construction phases to ensure stakeholder engagement
- Prepare outline scheme reports and technical design documentation to communicate project scope and details
- Contribute to contractor pre-qualification, respond to tender queries, and review tender submissions to support procurement decisions
- Participate in tender and client interviews to clarify project requirements and scope
- Ensure all project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Programme to meet deadlines and quality standards
- Deliver quality, sound, and efficient engineering design services reflected in all project deliverables
- Conduct design checks and reviews with junior engineers to maintain technical accuracy and compliance
- Prepare design reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, cost estimations, and schedules to support project execution
- Gather necessary information from Architects, Quantity Surveyors, and Design Consultants to advance design progress
- Liaise effectively with clients, professional organizations, authorities, contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate project delivery
- Identify and fulfill client requirements and expectations to ensure satisfaction and project success
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing training and support for their technical and professional development within AECOM
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification, or demonstrated successful delivery of design projects
- Minimum 10 years of experience, preferably in a consulting environment, including at least 3 years in detailed design, contractor coordination, and onsite experience
- Experience in mechanical/electrical building services engineering design, including specification writing and calculations
- Knowledge of engineering practices, techniques, procedures, and ability to interface with design teams and client needs
- Familiarity with regulations, industry standards, and good engineering design practices
- Proven track record working on diverse Building Services designs for Infrastructure, Education, Healthcare, and Commercial projects
- Experience managing conceptual designs through to completion and direct client engagement
- Ability to contribute to fee proposals and resource planning
- Capability to assess staff requirements at each project stage and manage single and multi-disciplinary projects
- Experience with infrastructure projects, such as railway projects, is advantageous
- Proficiency in BIM (Revit) is an added advantage
- Membership or near-achievement of professional engineer status in a recognized institution
