The Chief Nurse Acute Care represents a nursing team leadership model that includes the Associate Director for Patient Care Service and the Deputy (ADPCS), Nurse manager and other disciplines and other members of the health care team. The Chief Nurse is responsible for implementing directives, managing resources, personnel issues, oversight of standards of care and using evidence-based practice for Veterans across the continuum under his or her leadership. The Chief Nurse has broad authority and responsibility for decision-making within the scope of the position. The Chief Nurse directs and manages nursing personnel. The Chief Nurse is directly responsible for program oversight and all aspects of care delivered to patients in the assigned units and areas of responsibility. The Chief Nurse is a member of the Nurse executive Council and is part of the decision-making body to establish nursing practice within the Robley Rex Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Chief Nurse is responsible for process changes, equipment utilization, informatics, customer service/patient satisfaction, hiring decisions, staffing, employee relations, role specific standards of practice, diversity work environment and nursing practice and Joint Commission accreditation standards. The Chief Nurse participates in VISN and or Medical Center committees/councils, union partnerships and professional community organizations to continuously improve the quality of care and resolve staff and or patient care issues.
