Deli Manager
Position Summary
The Service Deli Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the deli department, ensuring high-quality food preparation, strong merchandising, and an exceptional customer experience. This role drives sales and profitability, manages food safety compliance, and develops a high-performing team to deliver fresh, ready-to-eat products that meet company standards.
Key Responsibilities Department Leadership & Operations- Oversee all daily deli operations including food preparation, slicing, packaging, and merchandising
- Ensure consistent execution of recipes, production plans, and presentation standards
- Manage ordering, inventory, and production levels to meet customer demand while minimizing waste
- Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper maintenance of slicers, fryers, ovens, and prep areas
- Deliver outstanding service through fast, friendly, and accurate interactions
- Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and meal solutions
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally
- Maintain a welcoming and well-organized service counter
- Ensure strict adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Maintain proper temperature logs, labeling, and handling procedures
- Enforce cleaning and sanitation schedules across all work areas and equipment
- Ensure compliance with company policies and local health department standards
- Drive department sales through effective merchandising, promotions, and suggestive selling
- Monitor shrink, waste, and labor costs to meet financial targets
- Analyze sales and production data to adjust ordering and preparation levels
- Maximize profitability while maintaining product quality and availability
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise deli associates
- Coach and develop team members on food preparation, safety, and customer service standards
- Provide performance feedback, recognition, and accountability
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment
- Maintain clean, attractive, and well-stocked service cases and displays
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and product labeling
- Execute promotional programs and seasonal offerings
- Maintain backroom and prep area organization
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3+ years of deli, food service, or grocery management experience preferred
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience required
- Strong knowledge of food safety, preparation, and merchandising practices
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work around hot equipment and in refrigerated conditions
- Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
