Deli Manager

Position Summary

The Service Deli Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the deli department, ensuring high-quality food preparation, strong merchandising, and an exceptional customer experience. This role drives sales and profitability, manages food safety compliance, and develops a high-performing team to deliver fresh, ready-to-eat products that meet company standards.

Key Responsibilities Department Leadership & Operations
  • Oversee all daily deli operations including food preparation, slicing, packaging, and merchandising
  • Ensure consistent execution of recipes, production plans, and presentation standards
  • Manage ordering, inventory, and production levels to meet customer demand while minimizing waste
  • Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper maintenance of slicers, fryers, ovens, and prep areas
Customer Service Excellence
  • Deliver outstanding service through fast, friendly, and accurate interactions
  • Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and meal solutions
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally
  • Maintain a welcoming and well-organized service counter
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure strict adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Maintain proper temperature logs, labeling, and handling procedures
  • Enforce cleaning and sanitation schedules across all work areas and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and local health department standards
Sales & Financial Performance
  • Drive department sales through effective merchandising, promotions, and suggestive selling
  • Monitor shrink, waste, and labor costs to meet financial targets
  • Analyze sales and production data to adjust ordering and preparation levels
  • Maximize profitability while maintaining product quality and availability
Team Leadership & Development
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise deli associates
  • Coach and develop team members on food preparation, safety, and customer service standards
  • Provide performance feedback, recognition, and accountability
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment
Merchandising & Presentation
  • Maintain clean, attractive, and well-stocked service cases and displays
  • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and product labeling
  • Execute promotional programs and seasonal offerings
  • Maintain backroom and prep area organization
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3+ years of deli, food service, or grocery management experience preferred
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience required
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, preparation, and merchandising practices
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work around hot equipment and in refrigerated conditions
  • Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
