Engineer- Fire and Life Safety Engineering
WSP GCC HK Advisory is seeking an Engineer Fire & Life Safety (Fire Engineering)
to be part of MEP team that supports WSP HK Advisory business in delivering designs, from concept stage to detailed design, for major multi-disciplinary projects. The individual will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting projects including sewage water treatment plants, Buildings, infrastructure, Highways, rail, Metro rail, Mainline railway.
The role will be responsible for all aspects of technical delivery in the relevant discipline, including the production of electrical MEP services designs predominantly for MEP services, working individually or as part of a team and with multi-disciplinary coordination. Experience of fire protection and engineering design during and including Concept to detailed design stages for the HK Advisory is highly desirable.
Design & Engineering
Develop fire & life safety system designs including but limited to the following:
Fire detection & alarm systems (FDAS)
Fire suppression systems (sprinklers, hydrants, gas suppression)
Smoke management & extraction systems
Emergency lighting and exit signage
Prepare design calculations (hydraulic calculations, pump sizing, tank capacity, pressure drop)
Develop drawings such as layouts, schematics, riser diagrams, and equipment details
Perform code compliance reviews and performance-based design and fire/smoke modelling
Perform fire load assessments
Standards & Compliance
Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards such as:
NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)
BS / EN standards
Local authority approvals (Fire Department, Civil Défense, etc.)
Project Coordination
Coordinate with architects, structural, and MEP teams
Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, and vendor designs
Support site teams during installation, testing, and commissioning
Technical Leadership
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
Lead design reviews and ensure quality of deliverables
Participate in client meetings and presentations
Risk & Safety Management
Conduct fire risk assessments and hazard analysis
Develop evacuation strategies and life safety plans
Identify design improvements for safety, reliability, and cost efficiency
Key Competencies / Skills / Qualifications
Knowledge in Fire Protection Design, Fire Engineering / Fire & Life Safety Design, Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation with at least 8 years relevant experience
Preferred Certifications
FPA Certification (e.g., CFPS – Certified Fire Protection Specialist)
Fire engineering certifications or relevant professional memberships
Knowledge of BIM and digital design workflows
Qualifications & Mandatory skills
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
Efficient use of 2D & 3D AutoCAD, Revit for BIM or equivalent.
Efficient use of MS Office applications, Strong MS Excel skills is preferable
Efficient use of Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS)
Experienced in Commercial, infrastructure and industrial projects including: (i) coordination for interdisciplinary projects; (ii) prepare technical reports, drawings and tender documents.
