Engineer Water & Wastewater_C3D

The suitable candidate for this role is an engineer specializing in Water and Wastewater Design & Digital Delivery. The Engineer – Water and Wastewater Design role involves close coordination with design engineers and peer groups across India and New Zealand, taking ownership of hydraulic design, 3D modelling, drafting, and preparation of design documentation for water supply and wastewater (sewerage and drainage) utility networks.

The role covers end-to-end engineering deliverables, from concept-stage hydraulic calculations through to detailed Civil 3D modelling, layout and long-section drawings, and comprehensive design reports. The focus is on delivering high-quality, construction-ready engineering outputs that meet project and client requirements.

Water & Wastewater Engineering & Hydraulic Design

  • Perform hydraulic design of water supply distribution systems, including pipe sizing, pressure analysis, network balancing, and reservoir/storage capacity calculations.

  • Design wastewater collection systems, including gravity sewers, slope/gradient determination, invert level calculations, and manhole/chamber layouts.

  • Carry out engineering calculations using established hydraulic principles and verify outputs against project requirements and standards.

  • Develop and document design basis, assumptions, and calculation methodologies for each project stage.

  • Ensure all design outputs meet applicable codes, client specifications, and industry best practices.

    Civil 3D Modelling & Drafting

  • Create and manage terrain surfaces using survey, GIS, and other spatial data inputs.

  • Develop pipe network models for both pressurised water systems and gravity sewer systems using Civil 3D.

  • Perform alignment design, corridor modelling, and generate profiles and cross-sections.

  • Apply and maintain drawing styles, annotations, and labelling standards in accordance with project requirements.

  • Work efficiently within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) for document control, coordination, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Support digital engineering workflows and contribute to improving modelling efficiency and standardisation.

  • Prepare high-quality general arrangement drawings, key plans, and utility layout drawings for water and wastewater networks.

  • Produce longitudinal sections (long sections) showing ground levels, invert levels, gradients, crossings, and utility interfaces.

  • Develop cross-sections, standard details, and manhole/chamber drawings to construction-ready standards.

  • Ensure all drawings comply with project drafting standards, quality requirements, and revision control procedures.

  • Maintain consistency, clarity, and accuracy across all drawing deliverables.

    Design Reports & Documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive design reports detailing design basis, methodology, assumptions, calculations, results, and conclusions.

  • Develop calculation sheets, technical specifications, and Schedule of Quantities (SOQ) for tender and construction purposes.

  • Maintain and manage drawing registers, calculation logs, and document control systems throughout project lifecycle.

  • Support internal QA/QC processes and incorporate review comments to ensure high-quality deliverables.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure completeness and alignment of documentation.

Required Technical and Soft Skills

  • Strong grounding in water supply and wastewater system design principles: hydraulics, pipe network analysis, and basic treatment process awareness.

  • Working knowledge of pipe materials (DI, MS, HDPE, RCC, GRP, etc.), valves, fittings, and appurtenances commonly used in utility projects.

  • Familiarity with construction methodologies for buried water and wastewater utilities

  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce:

    • Network layouts and general arrangement drawings

    • Longitudinal sections and cross sections

    • Detail drawings (manholes, chambers, valve pits, thrust blocks)

    • Design calculation sheets and complete design reports

  • Strong proficiency in spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, concisely, and effectively.

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary and cross-regional teams.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality deliverables.

  • Demonstrates resilience and adaptability, with the ability to navigate change, ambiguity, and evolving project requirements.

Software Proficiencies

Must Have

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D (Essential):
Advanced proficiency in modelling, drafting, pipe network design (pressure and gravity), surface creation, alignment and profile generation, and integration with BIM workflows.

  • GIS Platforms:
Proficient in ArcGIS and QGIS for spatial data analysis, utility mapping, and integration of survey/GIS datasets, including familiarity with New Zealand GIS data sources and council databases.

  • Microsoft Office Suite:

  • Word: Preparation of technical reports and design documentation

  • Excel: Development of calculation sheets, data analysis, and design validation

Good to Have / Additional Tools
