Principal BIM Engineer Water & Wastewater_P3D, C3D, Revit

The suitable candidate for this role is a Principal BIM Engineer specializing in Plant and Piping design for Water and Wastewater projects, with a strong focus on Digital Delivery. The role involves close coordination with design engineers and digital teams across India and New Zealand, supporting project delivery through high‑quality CAD and 3D modelling outputs.

The Principal BIM Engineer will take ownership of 3D modelling, drafting, and preparation of design documentation for water supply and wastewater (sewerage and drainage) infrastructure, including treatment plants, pump stations, and associated piping networks. The role supports projects across all stages, from concept and preliminary design through to detailed design and construction documentation.

Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining Plant 3D/Piping models, Revit 3D modelling & Civil 3D producing layouts, profiles, long-sections, and detailed drawings, and ensuring compliance with provided standards, digital requirements and project specifications. The focus is on delivering accurate, coordinated, and construction‑ready CAD deliverables that meet client and project expectations.

  • Deliver Plant & Piping CAD and BIM outputs for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pumping stations, treatment plants, recycled water schemes, dams, and desalination facilities, in line with WSP and client standards.

  • Prepare 2D and 3D deliverables using AutoCAD and Plant 3D, including GA drawings, piping layouts, isometrics, plot plans, sections, PFDs, P&IDs, and construction‑ready drawings.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain federated BIM models, undertaking clash detection, coordination, issue resolution, reporting, and data management within the Common Data Environment (Autodesk Vault).

  • Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs), quantity take‑offs, schedules, and equipment lists in accordance with project and client requirements.

  • Coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process) to deliver integrated and constructible design outcomes.

  • Liaise with New Zealand / ANZ lead offices to support cross‑regional project delivery and effective communication.

  • Review and check drawings and models to ensure compliance with WSP drafting standards, client requirements, applicable codes, and statutory regulations.

  • Take ownership of CAD delivery for small to large projects, contributing to design reviews, coordination meetings, and technical discussions.

  • Mentor and guide junior and intermediate CAD staff, promoting best practices, efficiency, and capability development.

  • Apply and champion QA/QC processes, supporting audits, continuous improvement, and compliance with WSP management systems.

  • Provide regular progress updates, risk identification, and workload forecasts to line management.

Required Technical and Soft Skills

  • Strong experience in Plant & Piping design for Water and Wastewater infrastructure, delivering GA drawings, layouts, isometrics, PFDs, P&IDs, and detailed construction drawings.

  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Plant 3D, with hands‑on experience in BIM coordination, clash detection, and federated model management.

  • Ability to interpret engineering inputs, specifications, vendor data, and survey information, and prepare BOMs, quantity take‑offs, and schedules.

  • Good understanding of CAD/Digital Delivery standards and international (NZ, Australian, UK, US) design standards.

  • Experience working in multi‑disciplinary and cross‑regional project environments.

  • Strong communication, coordination, and collaboration skills, with a professional approach to design reviews and stakeholder engagement.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring ability.

  • High attention to detail, quality focus, and ability to manage multiple priorities within deadlines.

Software Proficiencies

  • Demonstrated advanced hands-on expertise in AutoCAD Plant 3D & BIM coordination is a critical requirement for this role.

  • Extensive hands-on experience in AutoCAD (2D), Navisworks, Revit, and Civil 3D is essential.

  • Proven experience in using Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and BIM 360 platforms for project delivery and collaboration. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering, or (B.Tech or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline

Experience

  • 12–18 years of proven experience in water supply and wastewater utility projects.

  • Experience in utilities water, wastewater, recycled water pipeline projects, including potable water supply mains (DN50–DN1200), pumping stations, reservoirs, water sampling stations, bulk metering systems, emergency storage systems, odour control units and chemical dosing systems.

  • Proven experience in AU/NZ projects is highly preferred, with additional exposure to UK, US, or Middle East projects considered an advantage.
