This position is designated as SES, Career-Reserved. USDA structures its SES positions into position levels. This is a position level 1 with a salary range of $192,332 - $204,121 per year. Exceptions to the salary cap may be considered in certain circumstances. SES employees are also eligible to receive bonuses and performance-based awards. Leads all aspects of microbiology, chemistry, and pathology analysis of FSIS regulated products.
Shares primary responsibility for leadership of public health activities and scientific support, analysis, and expertise to ensure the safety of meat, poultry, and egg products.
Manages studies, reviews, and evaluations of scientific lab sampling data collected by the Agency and other public health partners related to meat, poultry and egg products to determine potential impact on human health.
Directs analyses of hazards as a science-based resource used for public health decision making.
Serves as a national and international resource on foodborne hazards and collaborates with other public health officials at the Federal, State, and local levels.
Oversees the management of all laboratory testing in support of investigations of foodborne illness outbreaks involving regulated food products.
Leads efforts to analyze foodborne hazards and identify trends.
Provides liaison with other Federal agencies and State and local agencies, and serves as a resource to them, to the industry, and to public interest groups with respect to lab analysis of food samples.
Manages Agency laboratory-based food defense activities through input into the Food Emergency Response Network National Program Office.
