Experienced Professional, Transportation Planning

Seeking a Senior Consultant - Freight to support the delivery of a portfolio of freight and logistics projects across the business. This individual will be responsible for delivering high-quality support to WSP United Kingdom (UK) and supervising discipline-specific project delivery from the Freight & Logistics GCC team.

Support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of freight and logistics projects across the business, including:

  • Opportunities to contribute to a range of projects such as freight strategy, logistics and distribution studies, last-mile delivery solutions, sustainable freight initiatives, decarbonisation strategies, and research.
  • Assess freight and logistics impacts of developments and policies, providing recommendations to improve efficiency, sustainability, and integration with wider transport networks.
  • Fulfil a technical role across multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring an engaging and challenging workload.
  • Conduct technical reviews to ensure the highest quality standards in project deliverables.
  • Prepare high-quality, client-facing technical reports and documentation for freight and logistics schemes/projects.
  • Understand project contracts and scope, ensuring deliverables are aligned with client expectations.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients and colleagues, collaborating across disciplines (planning, modelling, data analytics) to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Ensure the timely and budget-conscious delivery of high-quality project outcomes.
  • Support line managers in resource planning, identifying and escalating issues related to workload or utilisation.

Provide feedback to line managers on team performance and professional development needs.

Identify, assess, and manage technical and delivery risks on projects in collaboration with the line manager.

Contribute to sustainability and net-zero initiatives through freight and logistics strategies.

Actively participate in team and project meetings, contributing insights and technical expertise.

Take responsibility for line management duties, including mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members.

  • Strong experience in freight and logistics planning, including strategy development, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience in commercial proposals, report preparation, project planning, and resource management.
  • Understanding of logistics operations, supply chains, and policy frameworks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills aligned to UK standards.
  • Experience on UK Freight and Logistics projects is a must.
