FWT Technician
Job Description
- Perform functional and acceptance testing of electrical switchgear systems including low and medium voltage breakers, protective relays, CTs, PTs, and associated control circuitry.
- Conduct performance tests such as contact resistance, insulation resistance (megger), high potential (hipot), timing tests, and relay calibration.
- Troubleshoot and correct wiring, mechanical, and control issues using wiring diagrams, schematics, and test equipment.
- Verify proper operation of interlocks, safety devices, and control logic.
- Complete and maintain accurate test reports, inspection records, and startup documentation.
- Interpret technical drawings and documentation including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and product specifications.
- Ensure equipment meets all safety and performance standards before release or installation.
- Provide support during field installation, commissioning, or service visits as needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to company and industry safety procedures and regulations.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Industrial Electronics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of hands-on experience with switchgear testing, electrical systems troubleshooting, or commissioning in industrial or commercial settings.
- Proficient in the use of electrical test equipment such as multimeters, meggers, hipot testers, relay testers, power analyzers, and phase rotation meters.
- Strong understanding of three-phase power systems, control wiring, and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel for short-term field assignments or customer support.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
Work Environment:
- This position may require work in manufacturing, construction, or field service environments.
- Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols are required in all work areas.
Preferred Attributes:
- Prior experience working with UL, ANSI, or IEC-compliant switchgear systems.
- Familiarity with electrical codes, testing standards (e.g., NETA, IEEE), and quality assurance procedures.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Self-driven, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
