Role Summary
The Integration & API Engineer designs, builds, and operates secure, scalable integrations and APIs connecting non‑SAP applications and digital products across the enterprise. The role plays a key part in reducing point‑to‑point complexity, enabling standardised integration patterns, and improving reliability and time‑to‑market for business‑critical services.
This is a hands‑on engineering role with accountability for technical design quality, non‑functional performance, and operational resilience. The role contributes to shaping integration solutions and standards, working closely with architects, product teams, and service owners to deliver robust, supportable integrations.
Key responsibilities
Design and implement APIs and integration solutions between non‑SAP platforms, aligned to approved integration patterns and architectural guardrails.
Own end‑to‑end integration designs, including interface contracts, data mappings, transformations, orchestration, error handling, and resilience mechanisms.
Build and support API services using enterprise API management capabilities, ensuring secure exposure, lifecycle control, and consistent consumption.
Ensure integrations meet non‑functional requirements, including performance, availability, scalability, observability, and recoverability.
Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and tracing for integrations and APIs, using operational insight to support incident resolution and continual improvement.
Act as a technical contributor during integration‑related incidents and problems, supporting root cause analysis and long‑term remediation.
Apply security‑by‑design principles, ensuring data protection, encryption, and compliance requirements are met across all integrations.
Contribute to the development and adoption of standard patterns, reusable assets, and engineering best practices across the integration estate.
Collaborate closely with architects, product teams, service owners, and delivery partners to shape solutions and manage technical dependencies.
Support knowledge sharing and peer mentoring within the integration team to raise overall quality and consistency.
Manage total cost of ownership and be the product owner for non-SAP/API integrations, managing as well as optimizing project budgets, run budgets, license and infra budgets.

Hands‑on experience with API management concepts, such as authentication and authorisation, traffic management, versioning, and policy enforcement.
Strong operational mindset, with experience supporting production services and using observability data to improve stability and performance.
Ability to translate business and technical requirements into clear, well‑documented integration designs.
Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical decisions, trade‑offs, and risks to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred
Experience working within large, distributed integration landscapes, including rationalisation of legacy point‑to‑point integrations.
Familiarity with enterprise integration governance, standards, and design assurance practices.
Experience operating in multi‑vendor or outsourced delivery environments, coordinating across internal and external teams.
Exposure to regulated or risk‑sensitive environments where reliability, security, and auditability are critical.
