Lead Medical Support Assistant

The Lead Medical Support Assistant (LMSA) assists staff with a variety of clerical duties in one or more outpatient clinics that provide a variety of medical services. The LMSA performs a variety of supervisory administrative functions associated with patient care and treatment in one of several clinics performing a variety of medical services. Assures coverage of all areas of responsibility. Conducting ongoing review to ensure quality of work. Ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments. Providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures. Distributing and balancing workload. Creating and maintaining employee work schedules. Orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees. Ensuring all training requirements are met. Acting as a liaison between MSA and staff to resolve day to day conflicts. Sets the tone for perception concerning the quality of healthcare services at the VA. Screens and receives phone calls in a courteous and timely manner. Trains staff on the requirements of VHA Scheduling Directives and completes accurate scheduling responsibilities.
