Physician - Hematology/Oncology

The Staff Hematologist/Oncologist provides expert consultation and treatment to patients in the outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic; as well as provides feedback and consultation with the other services within the Black Hills VA Medical Center. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. An incentive is authorized for highly qualified candidates.

This position is in the Specialty Medicine Service Line at the VA Black Hills Healthcare System and reports directly to the Chief of Specialty Medicine. Physician provides consultation services and follow up of medical subspecialty patients, in the inpatient and/or outpatient setting, at the VA Medical Center in Fort Meade, SD. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluates, triages, and prioritizes requests from Primary Care providers and others for outpatient hematology/oncology subspecialty consultations. Obtains medical histories, conducts physical examinations, orders and evaluates appropriate laboratory testing, and plans and prescribes treatment for patients. Coordinates medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other medical personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. Performs administrative tasks as assigned, such as peer reviews and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE). Provides Hematology/Oncology on-call services as assigned. Attends staff meetings, serves on committees, teams, workgroups, and peer reviews as requested. Completes CME, VA Training, HIPAA, Security training, and other mandatory training courses. Provides clinical care within the Hematology/Oncology privileges approved by MEC. Performs other duties as assigned. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards.
