VA Boston Healthcare System is seeking a Full-Time Hematology/Oncology Physician. Keeps abreast of latest trends, skills, procedures, and protocols relevant in the area of specialty and serves as a resource person for the medical center staff Develop and maintain expertise in one or more subspecialty areas of Hematology/Oncology - GI and/or lung malignancy preferred Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations; establish medical diagnoses and appropriately enter, transcribe, &/or execute orders Order and interpret necessary diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms Formulate treatment plans and monitor patient progress Document patient encounters in a timely fashion Promotes, directs, evaluates, and is responsible for the management of safe patient care for patients being treated in the chemotherapy infusion unit including writing orders for administration of blood products and chemotherapy agents Responds to requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies; communicate and coordinate care among consultants to guide patient care Willing to provide Hematology/Oncology care by telehealth Attends tumor board(s) as assigned by the Chief of Hematology/Oncology Discuss and document advance care planning (end-of-life decision-making) Arranges for chemotherapy access procedures and biopsies with Interventional Radiology and Surgery Assists, as needed with marrow transplant (BMT) referrals by arranging appropriate clinical work-up, documentation, and transplant application submission to respective VA facility administrative authorities, VACO, and the respective VA BMT facilities Discuss proposed procedures, including the attendant risks and potential complications, and obtain the appropriate informed consent from patients; this includes obtaining informed consents for blood transfusions This position is more than 51% Clinical.VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
