Physician - In Patient Mental Health Manager

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Inpatient Program Manager (Psychiatry) Mental Health Unit has the following assigned duties: Responsible for planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures for the unit: Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines related to the management and provision of care of patients related to the management of care. Supports implementation of policies as well andis responsible for implementation and planning. Responsible for all program planning and development, advising facility and VISN leadership of shifting trends and identifying the need for and making recommendations on programoperations or policy changes based on work experience. Works collaboratively with internal/external stakeholders to expedite service delivery. Includes community partners. Ensures the implementation and adherence to the Uniform Mental Health Services Handbook (VHA Handbook 1160.01). Ensures that Veteran feedback is regularly analyzed and incorporated into the programming curriculum and unit services in general. Recognizes gaps and identifies solutions based on Veteran feedback. Develops, enhances, and tracks new initiatives, monitors effectiveness, and modifies as needed to meet care needs. Coordinates the planning, development and implementation of the group programming treatment for the Inpatient Mental Health Unit The primary source of evidenced based therapy on the inpatient unit is recovery-oriented group therapy and is a core treatment priority for the Veteran Health Administration. Recovery oriented group programming is comprehensive and extensive with an average of 20-30 group therapy sessions per week. These contributions enhance patient care, reduce restraints/seclusions, reduce 30-day readmission rates and improve staff satisfaction within VA inpatient mental health units and is therefore vital to the unit. Provides education, training, supervision, and scheduling of group facilitators from a wide variety of clinical backgrounds including trainees and permanent staff from social work, nursing, psychology, psychiatry, occupational therapy, and chaplain services. In all, approximately 40 VA staff may be supervised and managed in this area. Performs other related duties as assigned.The Inpatient Program Manager can teach and mentor staff and students in the specialty area of practice and to provide clinical supervision for licensures. May supervise or mentor other Health Professions Trainees.May participate in rotation of on-call psychiatry coverage, including modification of tour of duty to accommodate patient care needs during off tour hours.
