Physician - Staff Psychiatrist
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applicants will be May 31, 2026 with subsequent cut-off dates every week. The Staff Psychiatrist is primarily responsible for the overall psychiatric care delivered to enrolled Veterans at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. Psychiatric care includes diagnosing and appropriately treating the patients' psychiatric and/or behavioral problems, managing use of antipsychotic medications, providing consultative psychiatric services for other disciplines when needed, collaborating with medical providers, clinical pharmacists, psychologists and other interdisciplinary treatment team members, responding to psychiatric emergencies within the facility. The provision of psychiatric care may be delivered onstation or remotely through telehealth. The MHSL is comprised of inpatient, outpatient and residential programs to which a Staff Psychiatrist may be assigned. Although the setting may differ, the overall functioning of a Staff Psychiatrist remains the same. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM (subject to change based on agency needs)
