Planning Engineer (Planner)

Responsibilities:

Project Schedule Development

  • Prepare, update, and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) using Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Break down the overall project into work packages and define dependencies, milestones, and critical paths.
  • Support Project Control Manager and Project Manager in aligning the schedule with contractual deliverables.

Progress Monitoring & Control

  • Track daily, weekly, and monthly progress against the baseline schedule.
  • Collect input from engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and logistics teams for schedule updates.
  • Identify schedule deviations and propose recovery or mitigation actions.

Resource & Look-Ahead Planning

  • Prepare manpower histograms, resource allocation charts, and look-ahead schedules.
  • Ensure resource leveling and availability align with project priorities.
  • Forecast upcoming requirements (labor, equipment, scaffolding, materials).

Interface & Coordination

  • Coordinate with discipline leads and subcontractors to ensure accurate reporting of progress.
  • Assist Site Manager and Supervisors in preparing short-term plans to meet immediate project objectives.
  • Support the integration of subcontractor schedules into the project IMS.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Produce weekly and monthly planning reports, including progress curves (S-curves), critical path analysis, and variance reports.
  • Support client reporting requirements, including detailed progress presentations.
  • Maintain historical planning records for benchmarking and lessons learned.

Change & Risk Management

  • Analyze schedule impacts of changes, variations, and claims.
  • Update the schedule baseline and provide “what-if” scenarios for management decision-making.
  • Coordinate with Risk Manager/Project Control Manager to include risks and mitigations in the schedule.

Handover & Close-Out

  • Prepare final as-built schedules and planning documentation for project close-out.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement of planning practices.

Special working conditions

  • Onshore site visits and extended working hours may be required during critical project phases.
  • Must be available for rapid deployment to project sites when operational issues arise.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • Fit for offshore work and able to meet physical demands and extended standing in field visit conditions.

Planning & Scheduling Expertise

  • Strong background in developing and maintaining EPC and offshore project schedules.
  • Knowledge of work breakdown structures (WBS), critical path method (CPM), and resource leveling.

Industry Knowledge

  • Familiarity with offshore wind, HVDC/HVAC, oil & gas, or industrial construction execution methods.
  • Understanding of engineering, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning workflows.

Analytical & Reporting Skills

  • Skilled in preparing planning dashboards, S-curves, and variance analysis reports.
  • Ability to perform schedule risk analysis and scenario planning.

Coordination Skills

  • Experience interfacing with multi-discipline teams and subcontractors to consolidate planning data.
  • Ability to translate detailed technical inputs into accurate planning outputs.

Industry Experience

  • 5–8 years’ experience in planning roles, preferably on EPC or offshore projects.
  • Experience in yard-based fabrication and offshore installation scheduling is advantageous.

Software Skills

  • Expert user of Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced functions for reporting and analysis).
  • Familiarity with ERP/project controls systems and document management platforms.

Professional Certifications

  • Certification in Primavera P6 (Oracle) or equivalent scheduling software.
  • AACE International certifications (PSP – Planning & Scheduling Professional) are highly desirable.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2 certification (preferred).
  • Training in Earned Value Management (EVM) and risk-based planning.
  • Lean Construction or Advanced Planning techniques training (advantageous).
