Principal Engineer – Drainage
WSP India is currently seeking a Principal Drainage Engineer is responsible for design, analysis, and delivery of stormwater drainage systems from concept through to construction support. The role provides technical expertise, quality oversight, and coordination across multi‑disciplinary teams in delivering innovative and sustainable water and drainage solutions across mining and major infrastructure projects. It is responsible for delivering high‑quality design outputs, guiding junior engineers, and supporting project managers and technical leads in meeting client, safety, and commercial expectations. This position plays a key role in driving technical excellence, building strong client relationships, and contributing to the growth and capability of the Mining group. A Team player and willing to work collaboratively with a motivated and highly successful team in Australia. The position will be for Mumbai/Bangalore location.
As a Drainage Engineer, you will take on a critical role to ensure we deliver the work to the highest standard while taking on the responsibilities to:
Support project managers in delivering projects on time and within budget
Undertake hydrology and hydraulic analysis for a range of infrastructure projects (roads, rail, Urban developments)
Design:
Stormwater drainage networks (minor & major systems)
Culverts, drains, and detention systems
Overland flow paths and flood mitigation measures
Bridge opening hydraulic design regarding scour depths and rip rap sizing
Prepare drainage reports, calculations, and design documentation
Develop and review 2D/1D flood models (e.g., TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, DRAINS)
Ensure designs comply with Client design criteria and:
Local authority standards (e.g., Main Roads WA, Austroads)
Australian Rainfall & Runoff (ARR)
Relevant environmental and sustainability guidelines
Contribute to climate-resilient and sustainable infrastructure solutions
Use digital engineering and modelling tools to improve outcomes
Prepare technical drawings of flood mapping
Present and lead drainage design reviews with the clients
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, geotechnical, environmental)
Ensuring compliance with Australian standards and client requirements
Utilize advanced modelling and simulation tools to predict water-related risks and evaluate mitigation measures, enabling data-driven decision-making for clients.

Contribute to knowledge sharing in internal and external forums.
Remain up to date with market and competitor knowledge.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with Australian experience
Preference will be given to candidates with minimum 13-17 year of experience in a consulting
firm in an EPCM environment

13-17 years of experience in Civil engineering with Minimum of a bachelor’s degree & preferred master’s degree in civil engineering.
Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
Strong attention to the detail.
Familiar with working in a LEAN environment.
Experience with projects in Australia, New Zealand would be an advantage.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English.
