Senior Consultant - Geology
WSP is seeking a Technical Specialist to join to join our large and growing technical support team in Bengaluru to work with our global Mining business.
The successful applicant will undertake specialist analyses related to mining projects, and train and direct a team of mining, geotechnical and tailings (mine waste) engineering professionals who will be part of WSP GCC Global Mining Team, delivering the highest standards of technical work and aiding the continued success of the mining business by assisting us in our client focused delivery of projects.
The work will involve close collaboration with WSP's leaders in mining, initially focusing on numerical analyses and tailings management solutions, and then expanding into broader mining-related services such as rock mechanics and mining engineering support. Technical duties will include leading development of numerical models for tailings storage facilities, undertaking analyses to support tailings management design and preparation of summary reports.
- Technical direction or provision of input to design studies and related analyses for mining structures, including open pits, underground mines, tailings storage facilities, waste rock facilities, water dams and other earthen structures;
- Providing direction on complex technical analyses;
- Developing and reviewing complex analyses to support design and operational reviews of mining facilities;
- Liaising with specialists from other disciplines or offices within WSP to undertake studies and train personnel;
- Providing senior technical input to project teams and ensuring that appropriate technical standards are developed and maintained;
- Assessing and understanding credible failure modes and how they apply to specific mining facilities (pits and dams);
- Engaging with the talent pipelines and promote WSP;
- You'll be responsible for maintaining a strong technical involvement in projects and proposals;
- You will be establishing standard methodologies within the discipline and improving our methods;
- Participating in the Recruitment to achieve budgeted and programmed team growth;
- Local health and safety, welfare, risk, information security, and assessment / compliance
- Interfacing with multi-disciplinary project teams;
- Closely work with WSP's global Mining team;
- Acknowledge the global Mining team business needs (requirements) and user stories;
- Translate user stories or business needs (requirements) into technical tasks including design analyses;
- Document tasks and times estimated within development tracking software (e.g. Jira);
- Supervise technical team work to its completion within budget and time;
- Ensure the delivery of technical packages in FLAC or other software;
- Quality Assuring the work and outputs from that team;
- Identify opportunities to upskill existing technical resources or recruit new capabilities to deliver additional services or enhance existing ones;
- Contributing to the experience database to support the efficient delivery of future projects.
- Educated to Bachelor / Master's degree level in geotechnical, civil or mining engineering
- Strong technical experience in analyses related to mining facilities, particularly open pits, underground mines or tailings storage facilities
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent spoken and written English
- A solid education background in geotechnical, civil or mining engineering
- A strong technical background in geotechnical, civil or mining engineering with proven expertise in numerical analyses
- Well versed in using software such as FLAC or Plaxis
- Demonstrated experience in training and technical direction of a team
