Job Summary

Oversees food preparation and cooking activities, ensures dishes are prepared according to recipes and quality standards, supervises junior kitchen staff, and helps maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present food following established recipes and quality standards to ensure consistent taste and appearance
  • Supervise and guide junior cooks, kitchen assistants, and other kitchen staff to maintain efficient kitchen operations
  • Inspect ingredients and finished dishes to verify freshness and quality compliance
  • Monitor food inventory levels and report shortages or ordering needs to maintain adequate stock
  • Assist in menu planning and recipe development to enhance food offerings
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations to maintain a safe kitchen environment
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently to support food preparation
  • Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and smooth food service delivery
  • Minimize food waste and control kitchen costs through effective resource management
  • Train new employees on kitchen procedures and safety practices to uphold standards
  • Handle customer dietary requirements and special requests to meet guest needs

Preferred competencies and qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in culinary arts, hospitality, or a related field
  • Several years of professional cooking experience, typically 3–5 years or more
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Leadership and team supervision skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Good organizational and time-management abilities
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift kitchen supplies when required
