Senior Engagement Consultant
WSP has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our growing Engagement & Consultation team. We drive best practice in engagement, community relations, consultation and stakeholder management in the delivery of some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects as well as delivering expertise within the water, health, energy and environmental sectors. Within our Instructure Planning and Environmental Assessment business unit, you will manage public consultation and engagement activity, work at different stages of the consenting process from early feasibility, application preparation and delivery of consents through construction, and act as a trusted advisor for clients. You will also be responsible for working collaboratively with colleagues across WSP to deliver engaging communications.
• Delivering meaningful communication and engagement activity to help our clients deliver infrastructure projects around the UK by drafting and delivering effective stakeholder engagement strategies
• Supporting clients by planning and delivering engagement and consultation activities,
including developing engagement strategies and producing a range of consultation materials
• Working in conjunction with multi-disciplinary teams to translate technical information into plain English
• Helping to prepare Town & Country Planning Act applications for infrastructure projects across the UK, and preparing consenting inputs on major infrastructure projects
• Providing technical advice to clients and support managing their consenting requirements
• Presenting feedback to inform decision making by understanding and interpreting data, and managing the reporting process to present key themes clearly.
• Managing projects, including ensuring that resources are in place to deliver on time and to budget.
YOUR TEAM
You will be joining a team of 65+ communication and engagement specialists, primarily in the UK, who are passionate about what we do. Reporting to an Engagement team regional lead, you will be a key member of the team managing existing projects and client relationships. Based in our Noida / Bengaluru office, as part of WSP’s wider Infrastructure Planning & Environment Assessment (IP&EA) Global Capability Centre cohort, you will also help to build new partnerships and grow our international presence.
Required qualifications / education:
• Post Graduate qualification in Urban Planning / Public Policy / Economics / Statistics, or Management / Social Studies relevant subject with more than 7 years’ experience preferably UK/Australia/Similar region
• Demonstrable experience delivering engagement and consultation activity on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects
• Experience in the road, rail, utilities, water, environment or energy sectors
• Strong knowledge of UK political structures, consenting processes and requirements Preferred competencies:
• Proven experience of effectively managing and building stakeholder relationships, including with statutory bodies
• Outstanding communication skills, including experience of developing engagement strategies and reports, and demonstrable experience of writing for different audiences i.e. from developing content that is appropriate for the general public to technical report production
• Well-ordered, structured approach to delivery of tasks, and flexible with ability to adapt within demanding and fast-changing environment
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills to manage a varied workload.
• Strong team player who has an enthusiastic and motivated attitude
• Membership of relevant professional or trade body.
