Social Worker - Suicide Prevention

The Fargo VA Health Care System is recruiting for 1 full-time Mental Health Counselor for the Suicide Prevention Program within the Mental Health Department. This vacancy will be filled by either a Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

The Suicide Prevention Program serves to facilitate implementation of suicide prevention strategies at the Fargo VA Health Care System and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). Activities include support for the identification of Veterans at high-risk; coordinating enhanced care when indicated; and education of providers, Veterans, families, and community agencies/individuals on the risk factors and warning signs for suicide and treatment options. The VA case management services are designed to improve/maintain Veterans' health and mental health, enhancing their ability to remain stable, housed, and community integrated. Services include provision of high quality clinical treatment, advocacy, and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers and agencies as needed by the client. This is accomplished in collaboration with other members of the MHC Team or other interdisciplinary treatment teams as appropriate. This position is located on the main campus of the Fargo VA Healthcare System. FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: Screening/Assessment Treatment Planning/Goal Setting Treatment/Therapy Referral to Service Providers Resource Usage/Development Advocacy Crisis Intervention Education/Health Promotion and Prevention Coordination of Non-Institutional and Institutional Services Evidence-Based Psychotherapy Administrative Responsibilities This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
