Senior Mechanical or Electrical Estimator
Pay: $50-58/hr

Locations: Indianapolis, IN | Portland, OR | Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid/Remote)
Schedule: Primarily remote with occasional in-office collaboration
Duration: Long-term contract (potential for extension or conversion)
Travel: Periodic travel (quarterly) may be required


Overview

An established organization is seeking experienced Senior Mechanical and Electrical Estimators to support large-scale, complex projects. This role plays a key part in developing accurate cost projections, validating trade pricing, and supporting project teams through all phases of estimating and budgeting.


What You'll Do
  • Review drawings, specifications, and related documentation to produce detailed cost estimates
  • Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs from design packages
  • Develop independent "should-cost" estimates to validate contractor bids
  • Analyze and reconcile trade proposals against scope, budget, and market conditions
  • Source and verify current pricing from vendors, contractors, and cost databases
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project teams to ensure alignment on scope and assumptions
  • Support budget development, market studies, and multi-estimate comparisons
  • Maintain structured and organized cost documentation and files
  • Contribute to cost data libraries and continuous improvement efforts
  • Participate in site visits or walkthroughs as needed
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical estimating
  • Strong expertise in quantity takeoffs and industry-standard cost databases (e.g., RSMeans)
  • Familiarity with union labor environments and trade cost structures
  • Affiliation with relevant industry organizations (e.g., MCAA, NECA) is highly valued
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and standard estimating tools
  • Ability to analyze complex data and make sound, independent judgments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present findings and recommendations
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Additional Notes
  • Candidates with direct trade or specialty contractor experience are preferred
  • Experience within large-scale or industrial project environments is a plus
