Steel Structure Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking a Marine Structural Engineer to support the design, engineering, and technical execution of shipbuilding, vessel conversion, and repair projects. This role will be responsible for developing production drawings, performing structural calculations, reviewing technical specifications, and ensuring compliance with classification society requirements and maritime regulations.

The ideal candidate should possess strong structural design expertise within the marine or offshore industry and have experience working closely with clients, classification societies, designers, and shipyard teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design & Technical Review

  • Review contracts, technical specifications, equipment requirements, and engineering documentation to ensure compliance with project obligations
  • Interpret design drawings, classification requirements, and maritime regulations to support engineering activities
  • Develop engineering solutions and technical proposals to address project requirements and design challenges
  • Prepare technical responses, drawing comments, and engineering clarifications for clients, classification societies, and project stakeholders

Structural Design & Production Drawings

  • Prepare and develop production drawings based on approved design and classification drawings
  • Produce engineering drawings including General Arrangement (GA), outfitting drawings, lifesaving arrangements, structural construction plans, lifting arrangements, and other vessel-related drawings
  • Perform structural strength calculations, weight calculations, and weight control analysis
  • Support the development of block construction plans and structural fabrication documentation
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed accurately and according to project schedules

Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with clients, classification societies, designers, vendors, and internal project teams to ensure technical compliance and timely project execution
  • Support new building, conversion, and ship repair projects throughout the engineering phase
  • Participate in technical discussions and coordinate engineering matters with relevant stakeholders

Tender & Proposal Support

  • Assist commercial teams during tender submissions for shipbuilding, repair, and conversion projects
  • Support conceptual design development and technical proposal preparation for new business opportunities
  • Review tender requirements and provide engineering input during bid preparation

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in marine structural engineering, naval architecture, or ship design within the marine, offshore, or shipbuilding industry
  • Strong understanding of vessel structures, classification rules, and maritime regulations
  • Experience preparing structural calculations, weight calculations, and production drawings
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple engineering deliverables
  • Willingness to travel overseas for technical meetings when required
