Live & Learn Solomon Islands is a locally registered NGO and part of the regional Live & Learn Environmental Education network operating across the Asia‑Pacific. The organisation works closely with communities, schools, and government partners to deliver impactful programs in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), climate change adaptation, food security, gender equality, human rights, and peace‑building. Live & Learn collaborates with partners including UNICEF, DFAT, MFAT, PLAN, the EU, SPC and CARE, and contributes to regional initiatives such as Climate Resilient Islands, promoting inclusive, community‑led and nature‑based solutions.



We are currently seeking an experienced WASH Engineer based in Solomon Islands to support the planning, design, and delivery of high‑quality WASH infrastructure across communities, schools, and health facilities.



YOU ARE IDEAL FOR THIS ROLE IF:



  • You hold a tertiary qualification in Engineering
  • You have at least 2–3 years’ experience in WASH or infrastructure delivery, preferably in development or humanitarian contexts
  • You have experience in design, construction supervision, and quality assurance of water and sanitation infrastructure
  • You are familiar with national WASH standards, environmental regulations, and inclusive WASH approaches (GEDSI)
  • You communicate confidently with contractors, communities, and technical partners
  • You are fluent in Pidgin and English

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A DAILY BASIS:



In this technical leadership role, you will oversee WASH infrastructure delivery from design through to completion, ensuring compliance, quality, and sustainability.



Your key responsibilities will include:



Infrastructure Planning and Delivery

  • Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and baseline surveys
  • Develop technical designs, cost estimates, BOQs, and specifications
  • Supervise construction works and ensure quality control
  • Engage and manage contractors and suppliers

Technical Oversight and Compliance

  • Ensure infrastructure complies with national standards, environmental regulations, and inclusive WASH principles
  • Monitor implementation progress and address technical risks
  • Document lessons learned and technical reports

Capacity Building and Coordination

  • Supervise and mentor technical officers and field teams
  • Support the development of technical guidelines and manuals
  • Engage with communities to ensure strong ownership and understanding of project processes

Reporting and Budget Support

  • Support procurement and budget verification
  • Prepare technical progress reports for management and donors
