Welder and Flame Cutter
Job Summary
Operate welding and cutting equipment to shape and join metal materials safely and accurately, following technical specifications and safety standards to meet production goals.
Responsibilities
- Operate oxy-acetylene torches and flame cutting equipment to cut, shape, and weld metal materials according to specifications
- Set up and adjust welding and cutting tools, ensuring all parts and materials are correctly positioned for safe operation
- Inspect metal materials for defects and verify they meet quality standards before cutting or welding
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to complete tasks accurately
- Follow safety procedures by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, helmets, and fire-resistant clothing
- Perform routine maintenance on welding and cutting equipment to maintain proper functioning
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety regulations
- Measure and mark materials precisely to ensure accurate cuts and alignments
- Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, and cleaning as needed for welding or assembly
- Record work progress, including quantities of materials cut or welded, to support production tracking
- Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve production targets and deadlines
Required competencies and certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Relevant certification or training in welding, flame cutting, or metalworking
- Proven experience operating oxy-acetylene cutting, plasma cutting, or welding equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of welding techniques, tools, and materials
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices for handling hazardous tools and materials
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in demanding environments
