Physician - Hospitalist

The VA Central Iowa Health Care System is recruiting for (2) full-time Physician-Hospitalists. The Hospitalist Physician will provide Admission, Discharge, daily follow up and Consultative medical care for Hospitalized patients at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines.

The Hospitalist Physician will support Hospitalist Advance Practice Providers (including Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners) in their clinical practice in the care of inpatients. Duties include: The Hospitalist Physician is to provide medical coverage for all inpatients. If/when on call, will provide indirect supervision of residents in the hospital. Enter a progress note on all inpatients by a provider every day. This note may be completed by a resident physician but appropriate supervision must be documented according to VA policy. Responsibilities for supervision of medical students and medical residents. Assist with administrative efforts, will be assigned by The Chief Hospitalist and/or ACOS-SC, in order to expand and refine SC ICC services, which are acute medicine centric, and/or comply with Facility, VISN or national initiatives/directives. Expected to participate in discharge planning and other interdisciplinary patient care plan activities. During this time, information regarding patient status should be discussed with other team members and ensure proper hand off at the end of the shift as necessary. Act as surrogates for the patients of their colleagues, when one or more of their colleagues are on leave and/or assign surrogates amongst the Hospitalist colleagues accordingly. Complete clinical documentation in all areas in accordance with facility policy. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. Tour of duty may be 7 days on 7 days off.
