Senior Engineer Water & Wastewater_C3D
The suitable candidate for this role is a Senior Water Engineer specialising in Water and Wastewater Design and Digital Delivery. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across India and New Zealand, with responsibility for leading hydraulic design, technical delivery, and digital engineering outputs for water supply and wastewater (sewerage and drainage) utility projects.
The Senior Water Engineer will take ownership of end-to-end design delivery, from concept development and hydraulic analysis through to detailed design, Civil 3D modelling, drawing production, and preparation of comprehensive design documentation. The role emphasises quality assurance, technical leadership, and delivery of construction-ready solutions aligned with project, client, and regulatory requirements.
1. Engineering & Hydraulic Design
- Lead the hydraulic design of water supply distribution systems, including:
- Pipe network sizing, pressure and flow analysis
- Network balancing and optimisation
- Storage and reservoir capacity assessments
- Design wastewater collection systems, including:
- Gravity sewer design, slope/gradient optimisation
- Invert level design, hydraulic grade line development
- Manhole/chamber layout planning
- Perform and review engineering calculations using recognised hydraulic principles and industry standards
- Develop and review design basis reports, assumptions, and calculation packages
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design teams
2. Digital Engineering – Civil 3D Modelling & BIM
- Lead and oversee:
- Surface creation from survey, LiDAR, and GIS datasets
- Pipe network modelling (pressure and gravity systems)
- Corridor and alignment modelling
- Profile and cross-section development
- Ensure high-quality Civil 3D and BIM deliverables aligned with project standards
- Manage drawing styles, annotations, and standardisation across projects
- Work within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) for model coordination, document control, and collaboration
- Support digital delivery initiatives, automation, and BIM best practices
3. Drawing Production & Design Delivery
- Oversee preparation and quality review of:
- General arrangement drawings and network layouts
- Key plans and utility coordination drawings
- Longitudinal sections (long sections) showing: Existing/proposed levels, Invert levels, gradients, and crossings.
- Cross sections, typical details, and chamber/manhole drawings
- Ensure all drawings meet construction-ready standards, client specifications & drafting protocols
- Maintain compliance with internal QA/QC procedures and revision management
- Lead preparation and review of comprehensive design reports, including:
- Design methodology and assumptions
- Hydraulic calculations and results
- Technical references and compliance requirements
- Prepare and validate:
- Calculation sheets
- Technical specifications
- Schedule of Quantities (SOQ) for tender/construction
- Maintain structured documentation:
- Drawing registers
- Calculation registers
- Revision histories and audit trails
- Support internal and client review processes, ensuring timely closure of comments.
- Advanced and comprehensive knowledge of water supply and wastewater system design, including hydraulics, pipe network modelling, system optimisation, and awareness of treatment processes and interfaces.
- Strong expertise in pipe materials and utility components (DI, MS, HDPE, RCC, GRP, etc.), including selection, performance considerations, and constructability aspects.
- In-depth understanding of construction methodologies for buried water and wastewater utilities, including installation constraints, staging, and risk mitigation.
- Proven ability to independently lead and review the preparation of:
- Network layouts and general arrangement drawings
- Longitudinal sections and cross sections
- Detailed design drawings (manholes, chambers, valve pits, thrust blocks)
- Complete hydraulic calculation packages and design reports
4. Design Reports & Documentation
Required Technical and Soft Skills
Demonstrated capability to review, validate, and assure quality of design outputs prepared by junior engineers.
Strong proficiency in interpreting project requirements and translating them into accurate, constructible, and compliant engineering deliverables.
Software Proficiencies
Must Have
AutoCAD Civil 3D (Essential):
Advanced proficiency in modelling, drafting, pipe network design (pressure and gravity), surface creation, alignment and profile generation, and integration with BIM workflows.GIS Platforms:
Proficient in ArcGIS and QGIS for spatial data analysis, utility mapping, and integration of survey/GIS datasets, including familiarity with New Zealand GIS data sources and council databases.Microsoft Office Suite:

- Master's in Water Resource or Environmental Engineering (or related field)
Experience
8 to 16 years of relevant experience in the design and delivery of water supply and wastewater utility infrastructure projects.
Demonstrated experience in the planning, hydraulic design, and detailed delivery of water distribution networks (including transmission mains) and wastewater collection systems (gravity and pressurised), along with associated infrastructure such as pumping stations, reservoirs, and manholes, including preparation of engineering deliverables such as design calculations, Civil 3D models, general arrangement drawings, longitudinal sections, and technical reports, while working on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects with effective coordination across civil, mechanical, and digital delivery teams.
Familiarity with international design standards and codes, preferably New Zealand (NZ) and/or Australian (AU) standards. Experience with other international projects (UK, US, Middle East, etc.) will be considered advantageous.
