Supervisory Prosthetic Representative

The Prosthetic Representative is located at James A Haley VA Hospital. The Prosthetic and Sensory Aides Service(PSAS), provides comprehensive support to optimize health and independence of the Veteran services are provided within various settings. The PSAS administer, supervise or perform work concerned with rendering prosthetic and sensory aids services & equipment to eligible patients as well as various Prosthetic Specialty Programs.

Major duties include but are not limited to: Advises the VA Central Office for the development of PSAS policies Leads projects and project teams on activities related to prosthetic and sensory aid activities. Serves as an Assistant Chief located at larger facilities that provide specialty services to smaller facilities and report to a PSAS Service Chief. Shares with the Chief full responsibility for managing and supervising all phases of prosthetic operations. Serves as liaison between Prosthetic Service and other departments. Works closely with human resources and senior management to counsel employees and initiate disciplinary actions in a timely fashion. Interprets prescriptions of clinicians to make certain that proper prosthetic devices are selected for, or by, the patients. Authorizing the purchase, fabrication or repair of prosthetic devices. (Maintaining continuous liaison with manufacturers and dealers of prosthetic supplies, inspecting their facilities and services and participating in the award of prosthetic appliance contracts. Planning, developing, and directing a Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Program at the national, VISN or local level. Assures compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Related to the position, covering clinical & administrative aspects of the work. The employee has responsibility for independently planning, designing, and carrying out the program and ensuring that objectives and goals are met. The supervisor provides performance standards, program requirements, and performance evaluation through program results. Work is reviewed in terms of overall effectiveness through performance evaluations and program assessments.
