Produce Manager
Position Summary
The Produce Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the produce department, ensuring the highest standards of product quality, freshness, merchandising, and customer service. This role drives sales, manages inventory and shrink, and leads a team to deliver a visually appealing, fully stocked department that meets company expectations and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities Department Leadership & Operations- Oversee all daily produce department operations, including ordering, stocking, rotation, and merchandising
- Ensure consistent execution of company standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation
- Analyze sales trends and adjust ordering and displays to maximize performance
- Maintain proper inventory levels to ensure in-stock conditions while minimizing waste
- Deliver an exceptional shopping experience through high-quality displays and product availability
- Engage customers with product knowledge, recommendations, and meal ideas
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly
- Promote seasonal produce, specials, and value offerings
- Create attractive, abundant, and well-organized displays that drive sales
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and planogram execution
- Maintain cleanliness and organization across all displays, wet rack, and prep areas
- Execute promotional and seasonal sets to company expectations
- Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory controls to optimize sales and reduce shrink
- Enforce strict product rotation (FIFO) and culling practices
- Monitor and address shrink drivers, including spoilage and handling practices
- Conduct inventory counts and ensure accuracy
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise produce department associates
- Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management to drive results
- Foster a positive, team-oriented environment focused on accountability and engagement
- Develop future leaders within the department
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Maintain proper temperature control and handling of all produce items
- Enforce safe work practices and maintain a hazard-free environment
- Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3+ years of produce or grocery management experience preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of produce handling, merchandising, and inventory management
- Ability to analyze performance metrics and drive results
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs frequently
- Ability to work in wet and temperature-controlled environments
