Assistant Produce Manager

Position Summary
The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring fresh, high-quality products, strong sales performance, and an outstanding customer experience. This role helps lead the produce team, maintains merchandising standards, and ensures food safety and inventory controls are consistently executed.

Key Responsibilities

Department Operations

  • Assist in managing daily produce department functions including stocking, rotation, and product presentation
  • Ensure product freshness, quality, and proper handling at all times
  • Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and planogram execution
  • Support ordering and inventory management to achieve optimal in-stock conditions

Customer Service

  • Deliver exceptional service by assisting customers with product selection and providing product knowledge
  • Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
  • Promote seasonal items, featured products, and healthy meal solutions

Inventory & Shrink Control

  • Support inventory accuracy through proper receiving, stocking, and rotation (FIFO) practices
  • Monitor and reduce shrink through proper handling, culling, and storage procedures
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and department audits

Team Leadership & Development

  • Support supervision of produce associates, ensuring productivity and adherence to standards
  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing team members
  • Help create a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on accountability and performance

Merchandising & Visual Standards

  • Maintain a clean, fully stocked, and visually appealing department
  • Build and maintain attractive displays that drive sales
  • Ensure wet rack, tables, and displays are properly rotated, filled, and signed

Safety & Food Compliance

  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Maintain proper temperature control and product handling standards
  • Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of grocery or produce experience preferred
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of produce products, handling, and merchandising preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in wet/cold conditions for extended periods
  • Flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
